TEXTILE DOLLS BY LILIIA PALII

The Shevchenko Museum cordialy invites you to attend an exhibition of textile dolls by the Ukrainian fabric artist, Liliia Palii.

Liliia Palii is a Ukrainian artist known for her original textile dolls, guardian figures, and decorative fabric compositions. Trained as a civil engineer, she worked in the field for many years until difficult life circumstances in 2019 compelled her to step away from her profession. After a long period of recovery, creativity became her new path — a source of renewal, inspiration, and purpose.

Her work draws deeply on Ukrainian cultural heritage, folk traditions, and family memory. She creates unique textile guardians, folk protective dolls, Cossack-inspired figures, and symbolic compositions that blend traditional motifs with her own artistic vision. Central to her practice are themes of the woman?protectress, home, lineage, and the spiritual continuity between generations.

Many of Palii’s pieces emerge from childhood memories, village life, family stories, and the beauty of folk art. Some works incorporate fragments of old family embroidery, giving them intimate meaning and extending her family’s history through artistic expression.

In 2025, the Cherkasy Regional Art Museum hosted her solo exhibition “Light in the Palms.” The collection presented at the Taras Shevchenko Museum in Toronto continues her exploration of Ukrainian identity, tradition, and spiritual values.

Liliia Palii lives and works in Cherkasy. Through textiles, symbols, and expressive imagery, she conveys the richness of Ukrainian culture, the strength of memory, and the importance of human connection. Each piece is created with deep love for her heritage and family traditions. She warmly welcomes dialogue with viewers and looks forward to their impressions of the collection.
