PROMENADES - Exhibition of Art by Vasyl Kondratuk

Sunday, May 1, 2022 to Thursday, June 30, 2022, Sunday, May 1 @ 2:30 - 5:30 PM

Shevchenko Museum - 1604 Bloor Street West Toronto ON M6P 1A7

On Sunday May 1, 2022, the Shevchenko Museum at 1604 Bloor Street West in Toronto, Ontario, will present PROMENADES, the opening of an exhibition and sale of paintings by the late Ukrainian-Canadian artist, Vasyl Kondratuk (1939-2021).

The public is invited to enjoy the artist’s paintings of exquisitely attired individuals, rendered in the style of Art Deco and captured for a moment in time, as they promenade along the backdrop of Italian Renaissance facades. The play of movement with quiescence; juxtaposition of the surreal with the representational; the integration of historical eras; the strong compositions; and the bold, dramatic application of colour, all contribute to a unique and original body of work imbued with theatricality, elegance, mystery and intrigue.

Born in Kyiv, Ukraine in 1939, Vasyl Kondratuk studied fine art at the Kyiv College of Art and Lviv University. He arrived in Canada in 1976, a mature artist having exhibited his works in over 20 art shows in his home country. After 1976, he participated in more than 30 group and solo exhibitions in Canada, the United States and Europe. Many of Vasyl Kondratuk’s works can be found in private collections in Canada, the USA, Italy, France, Denmark, Russia, and Ukraine.

The opening of the PROMENADES exhibit will be held from 2:30 to 5:30 pm on Sunday, May 1 in the gallery of the Shevchenko Museum at 1604 Bloor Street West, Toronto. The exhibition will be on display until June 30, 2022. Gallery hours are Mondays to Fridays, 10 am – 4 pm, and weekends by appointment.  To book a private tour please email us at shevchenkomuseum@bellnet.ca or call 416-534-8662.
